About Us

The IDP Women Association “Consent” has been working as a group of volunteers since 1994. In April, 1996 it was officially registered as a non-governmental organization at the Ministry of Justice in Georgia.

The association is headed by the chairperson having two deputies.

The Board of Directors of the association takes decisions on the issues of strategic importance.

The Consulting Council functioning within the Association consists of women – leaders of women groups that are involved in the Association.

The Association established its branches in Gori (Shida Kartli), Tskaltubo (Imereti), in lower zone of Gali district in the village of Nabakevi (Abkhazia).


Mission of the organization:

The organization works towards the establishment of democratic society, providing assistance to IDP women by creating favorable conditions and opportunities for the participation of IDPs and other minority groups in social as well as political life of the country on equal terms, promoting the realization of their rights and improving their economic, social and political status.


The main directions of the activity:

- Informal education of women and youth;
- Psycho-rehabilitation of traumatized women and youth;
- Peace-building activity;
- Support of small initiatives facilitating the increase of economic independence;
- Working towards advocating the IDP problems;
- Promoting the ideas of gender equality;
- Dissemination of reliable information;
- Improvement of the present conditions IDPs are placed under.


The Association has conducted and promoted conducting social surveys related to social, psycho-medical, economic problems and rights of IDPs particularly that of women and children. The association has a number of publications and periodicals.


The association takes part in the international and national networks such as as Network of Women Organizations of the South Caucasus "Working Together in the Caucasus", networks of organizations working on the issues concerning refugees and Internally Displaced Persons CRINGO (supported by the Danish Refugee Council), networks of women organizations "Women for Peace" and regional coalition "Unity of Women for Peace" (supported by UNIFEM), and collaborates with the Helsinki Citizens Assembly.


The association works in close collaboration with different foundations and international organizations.


Donors and partners: Evangelischer Entwicklungsdienst e.V. - EED (Germany), Danish Refugee Council (DRC), foundation HAELLA (the Netherlands), UN Women Fund UNIFEM, "Conciliation Resources" (United Kingdom), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Luxembourg.


The programmes and development of the Association has been supported by UNHCR, UNV, CFTC - "Canadian Feed the Children" (Canada), the Institute for Democracy in Eastern Europe IDEE (USA), Norwegian Refugee Council NRC, BERGHOF Foundation (Germany), Swiss Red Cross, the foundation HORIZON (Germany), the Organization CORD AID, the Interchurch Peace Council IKV, the International Medical Corps IMC and etc.

Julia Kharashvili

Since the day of its establishment, Julia has been the chairperson of the association. She is a certified trainer, head of the psycho-rehabilitation programmes, organizer of Peace Camps and Young Volunteers` Peace Dialogue, an editor of the children’s magazine "White Crane." Many years she dedicated to work in UN Volunteers program "Confidence building measures in Georgian-Abkhaz conflict" and in project "New Approach to IDP Assistance".

Liana Beria, PhD

Deputy Chairperson of the association for programmes unit. Being a certified trainer she is also a member of the Coordination Council of the CRINGO Network. Associate Professor of Sukhumi Branch of Tbilisi State University.
